APTHORPE, Henry Guy

1897 - 1961

Henry Guy Apthorpe was born at 1 Gonville Place, Cambridge on 5 November 1897, son of Henry Campion Apthorpe, then a director of a cement company, and his wife Anna Margaret née Symonds (1873-29 December 1962), who married at Thelveton, Norfolk on 28 January 1897. In 1911, young Henry was a scholar, living with his parents and siblings at Trinity House, Hills Road, Cambridge. Henry married at Holy Trinity Church, Cambridge on 23 January 1932, Edith Hilda MacIntosh (21 July 1890-14 June 1980) of Cambridge and they moved to 'Sunnyside', Palgrave, Suffolk. An auctioneer, valuer, and estate agent at Diss, Norfolk and in 1926 he opened a branch of his auctioneering business Symonds & Apthorpe at Eye, Suffolk in which he was the manager. In 1939, an estate agent & auctioneer, living at 'Sunnyside', Palgrave with his wife Edith. A gifted watercolour artist and a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1936-1961 from Palgrave, Suffolk and was an acquaintance of Sir Alfred Munnings and owned several of his works. Henry Guy Apthorpe died at Palgrave on 22 January 1961, aged 63 and his wife Edith, died at Raydon House Nursing Home, Ipswich in 1980.
