Graham Giles

Maurice Graham Giles was born at Greenwich, London in 1942, son of Laurence Perivale Giles (11 April 1911-31 October 1999), civil engineer, and his wife Kathleen Maude née Freeman (30 November 1913-17 April 2003), who married at Lewisham, London in 1941. Graham studied at Regent Street Polytechnic 1960-1963, followed by Chelsea School of Art 1963-1964, with post-graduate at the Royal Academy Schools in London being awarded post-graduate scholarships to the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm, in the studio of Evert Lundquist (1904-1994), and to the École Des Beaux Arts in Paris. As Graham Giles, a landscape painter and teacher, being a visitor at both Hull and Grimsby Colleges of Art and senior lecturer in theoretical studies at Norfolk Institute of Art & Design. On his marriage at Ampthill, Bedfordshire in 1967 to artist Julie Giles, they came to Suffolk where they lived and worked at The Old School House, Monks Soham, with their three sons. A member and exhibitor at the Suffolk Group of Artists and has had mixed exhibitions at the London Group of Artists; Thackery Art Gallery and the South London Art Gallery and Phoenix Art Gallery, Lavenham, Suffolk and has had solo shows at Cadogan Contemporary from 1988 and Chappel Galleries, Essex from 1999. Graham has had solo shows, and together with his wife, at the John Russell Gallery, Ipswich from 1997.
