GOSLING, Annabel Victoria

Annabel Victoria Gosling was born at Overbury, Gloucestershire on 4 September 1942, daughter of Robert Alexander Bennett Gosling (21 September 1912-31 August 2004), a barrister-at-law, and his wife Angela Irene Russell (28 September 1912-18 December 1996), youngest daughter of Hon. Victor Russell, who married at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street, Chelsea, London on 19 July 1938 and in 1939 were living at Flat 1, 6 Gledhow Gardens, Kensington, London. The family moved to Suffolk and Annabel studied at Ipswich School of Art in 1958, Angers Beaux-Arts, France in 1959 followed by the Byam Shaw School of Art 1960-1964, being awarded Scholarships by both the Leverhulme Foundation and the Byam Shaw. Gosling's work was impressed by an intense interest in light and colour, the work of Matisse and Cezanne and extensive travels in Europe and India. Annabel was an artist, author and illustrated several books and she exhibited at the Royal Academy also showing at the Royal Society of British Artists; New English Art Club and Archer Gallery. Annabel has had solo exhibitions at Ansdell Gallery 1971, Royal Festival Hall 1980, Mall Galleries 1991 and Albemarle Gallery 2000 and elsewhere. Her work is held by the royal family of Abu Dhabi, Scottish Educational Development Authority and the Savoy and Berkeley Hotels. She married at Chelsea on 25 October 1965, Nathaniel Charles Sebag-Montefiore (14 December 1938-12 January 2018), son of Lt-Col Oliver Robert Marne Sebag-Montefiore and Henrietta Floretta Waley-Cohen and they had two children Victoria Alice, and Matthew Oliver (born 1971). In 2008 Annabel was living at Lowood Lodge, Mill Lane, Woodbridge, Suffolk before returning to London.
