Elizabeth Ikin

Elizabeth Hannah Ikin was born at Long Eaton, Derbyshire in 1948, daughter of Rutherford Graham Ikin (22 January 1903-1989), headmaster of Trent College, and his wife Elizabeth Mary née Mason (13 September 1913-8 July 2003), who married at St John's Parish Church, Workington, Cumberland on 20 August 1936 and in 1939 were living at School House, Trent College, Long Eaton, Derbyshire. Elizabeth completed a foundation course in art and design at Derby School of Art 1972-1973, before obtaining a sculpture with fine art honours degree at Hull School of Art 1973-1975 under sculptor Austin Andrew Wright (1911-1997). A photomontage artist and teacher, she moved from black & white to colour 1976-1977 and from the late 1990s from cut-and-paste to a computer to create new landscapes and seascapes using shapes and forms. During 1982-1985 she was visiting lecturer at art college departments of sculpture and photography and taught music 1986-1994 and from 1994 was education officer at Gainsborough's House Gallery, Sudbury, Suffolk. Elizabeth exhibited extensively from 1975 and in 2000 had a solo retrospective show at Usher Gallery, Lincoln and her 2012 exhibition at the Old Fire Engine House Gallery, Ely 'The River Great Ouse' concentrated on the world beyond the riverbank, revealing the riches just below the surface of the water but for many years the sea, landscape and trees were her main subjects. She married at Belper, Derbyshire in 1977, Oliver Clement John Williams. She lived at 39 York Road, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk but now has her home in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
