PERCIVAL, Ethel Maud
Ethel Maud Percival was born at Great Tey, Essex on 12 September 1896, daughter of George Percival (3 February 1862-20 October 1949), a farmer, and his wife Emeline née King (24 February 1864-1947), who married at Great Tey on 29 September 1883. In 1901, Ethel was a 4-year-old, living at Pattocks Farm, Chappel, Essex with her parents, 39-year-old George and 37-year-old Emilene, with four siblings, Horace Alfred 17, Herbert Charles 15, Edgar 12 and Frances Maud 1, another sibling was born in 1903 Amy Letitia. Ethel was educated at Priory School, Earls Colne, Essex where her art teacher was Lily Mann and where she was boarding in 1911. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1915 and exhibited from Southdene, South Street, Sheringham, Norfolk in 1915, two watercolours 'Girante, Lake Como' and 'At Angeles' and in 1916 a further three pictures 'A Street Scene in Sienna', 'Above Trenrezzo, Lake Como' and 'The Somariva Chapel, Lake Como'. She married at Great Tey in 1925, William Richard Brown (17 July 1896-13 March 1996), a garage proprietor, and in 1939 was living at 22 Wycombe End, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire with her husband. Ethel Maud Brown died at 128 Rowlands Road, Worthing, Sussex on 7 May 1942, aged 46.
