Anthony Jeremy Rugge-Price was born in the Andover district of Hampshire on 23 March 1940, eldest child of Anthony Arthur Keith Rugge-Price (9 November 1914-14 May 1997) and his first wife Joan Lisette Douglas née Pilkington (July 1919-March 2006), who married at Westminster, London on 27 April 1939 and divorced in 1948. Jeremy, as he was mostly known, spent his younger years at Aldeburgh, Suffolk where he learnt the art of sailing which became his passion. He was educated at Harrow, spending 1957-1960 in the merchant navy before following in his father's footsteps and joined the army, serving in 13th/18th Royal Hussars. In 1976 he emigrated to Maine, USA working in the hotel and restaurant industry whilst learning to paint. In 1994 he gave up his day job and concentrated on painting full-time, and in 2003 was living at 182 Oakhill Road, Hudon, New York, U.S.A. but after thirty years in America, in 2006 he returned to live at Orford in Suffolk. He married, firstly on 20 July 1963, Sarah Olivia Valentine Adam, they were divorced, and he married secondly on 14 July 1972, Beverly Ann Brett, daughter of Lt.-Col. Lance Granville Davidson Brett, they were also divorced when he married thirdly, Carolyn Anne Beaumont, daughter of Sir Richard Ashton Beaumont and he married, fourthly, Paula Kay du Plessis, daughter of Daniel du Plessis. A painter of landscapes, he has exhibited widely in North America and his commissions have included Military paintings depicting bygone battles such as Balaklava and the Charge of the Light Brigade and the landings in Normandy on D-Day and is member of the Armed Forces Art Society and the Army Art Society. His first solo show in the United Kingdom was at Century Galleries, Henley-on-Thames in 1997 which included his pictures of East Anglia, Brittany and Venice. He and his wife Paula are now [2020] living at Orford in Suffolk.
