CHURCHMAN, Violet
Violet Churchman was born at Ipswich on 30 January 1902, youngest of the four daughters of Sir William Alfred Churchman, Bart., (23 August 1863–25 November 1947) a director of Imperial Tobacco Company, and his wife Lois Adelaide née Wrench (26 February 1867-19 February 1934), who married All Saints' Church, Ipswich on 18 January 1891, she was a niece of Arthur Charles Churchman, (Lord Woodbridge) and a sister of Dorothy Adelaide Churchman. In 1911, living at Orwell House, Lower Street, Walton cum Felixstowe, Suffolk with her parents, 48-year-old William and 44-year-old Lois and her three elder sibling sisters, Dorothy Adelaide 19, Phyllis Elsie 17 and Ida Nancy 10. They later moved to Melton Lodge, Woodbridge, Suffolk where Violet was living in 1939. Violet was a member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1952 and exhibited from Melton Lodge in 1977, a painting 'Bottles' and in 1990 from the same address 'Martlesham Creek'. Violet Churchman died at Melton Lodge on 11 April 1993, leaving and estate of over £2 million, she, like her three sisters, was unmarried.
