FISHER, James Henry
James Henry Fisher was born at Street, Somerset in 1851, son of John Fisher (1811-1880), a sheepskin rug framer, and his wife Matilda née Flavel (1814-), who married at Northampton in 1840. In 1861, James was a 9-year-old, living at East Lane, Street, with his parents, 49-year-old John and 46-year-old Matilda and nine siblings. James married at Street, Somerset in 1872, Hannah Cox and about 1880 they came to live in Ipswich. In 1891, a 40-year-old 'boot foreman', living at 27 Old Foundry Road, Ipswich with his 41-year-old wife Hannah with four children, Harold 17, Arnold John 14, Walter 11, all born at Street, and 3-year-old Mabel Beatrice Jane, who was born at Ipswich. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1890-1891 and exhibited from Vignoles, Gandish House, East Bergholt, Suffolk in 1890, six watercolours 'Looking up the Stour to Dedham', 'A September Morning, Flatford Lock', 'Down the Orwell', 'A Little Britanny Peasant', 'Quimperle, Britanny' and 'Flatford'. By 1901, they had moved on to 46 Knighton Fields Road East, Leicester and ten years later had moved round the corner to 293 Clarendon Park Road, Leicester where his wife died on 16 February 1915, aged 65. James Henry Fisher died at Knighton, Leicester in 1932, aged 81 and buried at St Mary Magdalen, Knighton, Leicester on 5 October 1932.
