HOOPER, William Adlington

1892 - 1940

William Adlington Hooper was born at Nottingham on 15 October 1892, only son of William George Hooper, an insurance inspector, and his wife Florence Evelyn née Hunt (c.1867-31 October 1940), who married at Kings Norton, Worcestershire in 1891. In 1911, young William was an 18-year-old insurance clerk, living at 40 Portland Road, Edgbaston, Worcestershire with his parents, 45-year-old William and 43-year-old Florence and his only sibling, 15-year-old Grace. William married at Ipswich at the Wesleyan Church, Museum Street, Ipswich on 17 November 1916, Gertrude Alvenah Pockson (25 September 1893-15 May 1963) of Edgbaston, and they had three daughters born at Ipswich 1918-1924. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1923-1929, exhibiting from 191 Norwich Road, Ipswich in 1923, an oil 'Across the Moor' and in 1925 three oils, two entitled 'Landscapes' and one titled 'Industry', in 1926 an oil 'Weather' and in 1927, two oil paintings 'Landscape' and 'Purple Hills'. In 1932 a retired insurance manager living at Warwick Road, Litchfield, Hampshire and in 1939 living at 43 Arnewood Road, Bournemouth where William Adlington Hooper died in 1940, aged 47.
