MURRELL, Harry
Harry Murrell was born at Pirbright, Surrey on 21 September 1895, son of Harry Murrell (27 July 1867-13 February 1946), a drill sergeant in the Coldstream Guards, and his wife Mary Ellen née Caddy (4 September 1869-28 May 1956), who married at St Peter's Church, Carbrooke, Watton, Norfolk on 4 June 1895. In 1911, young Harry was a 15-year-old, living at Griston Road, Carbrooke with his parents, 43-year-old army pensioner Harry and 41-year-old Mary, both born at Carbrooke, his 13-year-old younger brother Arthur Cecil, who was killed in action in 1918, an aunt and a mother-in-law. Harry, jun. served in the Norfolk Regiment during the First World War. In 1921 the family were living at Southmoor Road, Carbrooke, Norfolk when young Harry was a bank clerk and he married at St Mary's Church, Rushmere St Andrew, near Ipswich, on 6 June 1933, Emmie Marion Cox (9 October 1905-6 June 1991) and they had one daughter, Sheila born the following year. In 1927, Harry, a bank cashier, and his wife were living at 161 Sidegate Lane, Ipswich and in 1939 they were still residing there. A member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1949 but exhibited watercolours from 161 Clapgate Lane, Ipswich in 1948, 'The Edge of the Field' and 'A May Morning', in 1949 'January Landscape' and 'Foxhall Heath', in 1950 'June Morning, Foxhall Heath' and 'Finn Valley near Rushmere' and, after a long break, exhibited in 1960 from Four Elms, Lower Ufford, Woodbridge, Suffolk, pastels 'The Forest Edge' and the following year 'The Water Meadows'. Harry Murrel died at Four Elms, Ufford on 18 February 1982.
