PRITT, Richard
Richard Pritt was born at 7 Friargate, Preston, Lancashire in 1848, only son of John Pritt (1822-1901), a meal & flour dealer, and his wife Anne, who married in the West Derby district in 1845. In 1851, Richard was a 2-year-old, living at 113 Friargate, Preston with his parents, 28-year-old John and 28-year-old Anne, and his two sisters Alice 4 and newly born Mary Ann. His father became a baker and in 1871, 22-year-old Richard was a journeyman bread baker still living with his parents at Friargate. After a Breach of Promise loss in 1874 and his bankruptcy in 1875, Richard married at Preston in 1877, Frances Jane Chew (1850-1891) and in 1881 a 32-year-old corn mill manager living at 5 Wellington Terrace, Preston with his 31-year-old wife Frances. In 1891, now a flour commission agent, he was living at 11 Long Lane, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, his first wife died later that year aged 42, when he moved to Lancaster where he married again in 1897, Elizabeth Ann Carr and they lived at Adcliffe Place, Lancaster. By 1911, they had moved to 155 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich where 60-year-old Richard was a commercial agent in the flour trade, with his 50-year-old wife Elizabeth, born Keighley, Yorkshire. A member of the Ipswich Art Club from Woodbridge Road, Ipswich 1911-1912, but does not seem to have exhibited. Richard Pritt returned to Longton and died at Dunkirk Lane, Leyland, Lancashire on 26 August 1920, aged 72, he had no issue.
