RANDS, Frederick Edward
Frederick Edward Rands was born at Ipswich on 11 April 1867, eldest child of Josiah Rands (1846-23 January 1897), a sack & cloth manufacturer, and his wife Emily Maria née Thrower (1867-13 February 1927), youngest daughter of Henry Thrower of Ipswich, who married at Ipswich on 3 May 1866. In 1881, Frederick was a 13-year-old, living at Airlee Place, Christchurch Street, Ipswich with his parents, 35-year-old Josiah and 34-year-old Emily, and four, of five, siblings, Lillian E. 12, Jessie Maud 11, Ernest Josiah 9 and Harold Charles 5, all born at Ipswich. Frederick married at Fulham, London in September 1890, Madeline Emily Tench (1863-1933) and the following year, was a 23-year-old tent manufacturer, living at 4 Pine Villas, Constitution Hill, Ipswich with his 27-year-old wife Madeline, born Wickham Market, Suffolk. A director of the family firm of J. Rands & Jeckell, tent & marquee manufacturers, and in 1911 was living at Tweed House, 18 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich with his wife Madeline and four children, Cyril 18, Reginald 16, Muriel Madeline 15 and Doreen 13, all born at Ipswich. A member of the Ipswich Art Club from Turret House, Ipswich 1913-1915 but does not seem to have exhibited. Frederick was Mayor of Ipswich 1919-20. Frederick Edward Rands died at Tweed House, 18 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich on 2 October 1939, aged 72.
