CAMPBELL, Peter Francis

1931 - 1989

Peter Francis Campbell was born at St Olave, Bermondsey, London on 10 April 1931, son of George Francis Campbell (1910-1994) and his wife Eleanor Elizabeth née Adamson (1905-1983), who married at Bermondsey in 1929. Peter studied at the London School of Printing and at Goldsmiths College, London, working as a graphic designer until 1965. He then concentrated on his painting, working in oils, watercolours, enamels, lino and woodblock printing, and even sculpture, becoming one of East Anglia's finest romantic landscape painters. In 1971, he moved to Eye, Suffolk from where his subject matter was provided by daily walks with his dogs in the Suffolk countryside, or by regular visits to familiar places in East Anglia, Cornwall, and Ireland with landscape central to his work. Peter was a visiting lecturer in enamelling at London University Institute of Education and he exhibited at the Royal Academy, and he illustrated several private press books for Skeltons Press. Peter Francis Campbell died at The Abbey, Eye, Suffolk on 20 March 1989, leaving a wife and a son.
