Allan Williams

Allan Williams was born at Wrexham, Denbighshire, Wales in 1955, his mother's maiden name was Pugh. Allan was educated at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, obtaining a B.A. (hons) in Art & Design (Fine Art) in 1976 and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Concordia University, Montreal in 1981. An accomplished and versatile artist, his artwork is a mixture of observation, interpretation and invention working in acrylic or oils on canvas, photomontages, and computer-generated digital images. The subject of his most recent paintings is the landscape of Suffolk and in particular, the eroding coastline of Covehithe and in his paintings 'Covehithe Erosion Zone 1' and 'Ghosts of Benacre', Williams has skilfully captured the way the ever-changing light picks out the colours in the waves breaking on to the North Sea coast. Allan has completed a lottery funded project recording the pre-development London Olympic site in paintings, together with portraits and sound recordings of older people who have lived and worked in that area. He also paints personalised portraits and house portraits, from town houses to country cottages. He has exhibited widely in the UK and Canada and has been a finalist for three consecutive years in the Singer Friedlander/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition from 2004.
