Janie Pirie

Jane Alison Pirie was born at Newton Longville, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire in 1968, daughter of Ian M. Pirie and his wife Dinah née Beard, who married at Newark, Nottinghamshire in 1966. After leaving school, Janie as she is known, studied at the Northampton School of Art before work took her to London to be followed by many countries outside of the UK, including Greece, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. She subsequently studied at the Colchester School of Art, specialising in illustration, after which she worked in Public Relations & Marketing at the same time illustrating books and magazines and took commissions for portraits, pets, and many other subjects. Janie then became a professional artist specialising in floral/botanical subjects using coloured pencils. Plants and vegetables as subjects, have led her to becoming a renowned botanical artist and is a member of the Society of Botanical Artists, also a tutor on their Distance Learning Courses. In 2008, Janie was awarded a Silver-Gilt Medal by the Royal Horticultural Society and a Gold in 2009 and she is a member of the UK Colour Pencil Society, showing her work at their annual exhibitions. She exhibits both nationally and internationally and one of her works has been purchased by The Hunt Institute at the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Her meticulous and striking compositions are given a noticeably subtle touch with her deft coloured pencil work. This attribute gives her pictures the composition, detail and depth of colour that has made her originals, limited edition prints and art workshops so popular. Her studio is at The Hassocks, Ipswich Road, Stratford St Mary, Suffolk on the Essex border.
