BROWN, Margaret Landon

1862 - 1942

Margaret Landon Brown was born at Ipswich and baptised at St Stephen's church, Ipswich on 4 June 1862, daughter of William Brown (1820-20 October 1891), timber merchant of Gypeswyk Hall, Ipswich and his wife Esther née Landon (1824-1889). Margaret was a sister to Frank Brown. Margaret studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art and passed out with a certificate of excellence in Model Drawing in 1880. In 1881, an 18-year-old, living at Gippeswyk Hall with her parents, 60-year-old William and 65-year-old Esther, and four siblings and was still there in 1891. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1889-1902 of Gippeswyk Hall, but does not seem to have exhibited. In 1901, a 38-year-old spinster, lodging at a boarding house at Woodlands, Sandhurst Park, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. In 1939, Margaret Landon Brown was living at 115a St Andrews Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk where she died in 1942.
