ROBERTS, Lieut. William
William Roberts was born in August 1796. He entered the Royal Navy as a Midshipman and promoted Acting-Lieutenant. As Lieut Roberts, a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1875-1876. This is probably William Walter Roberts, a naval captain, the father of Clarinda Roberts and Rosa Roberts. In 1871, a 74-year-old living at Rose Hill House, Ipswich with daughters, Clarinda, Rosa, Frances Ann, and Charlotte. Although listed as a member, and two of his daughters exhibited, no painting was found which were exhibited by their father.
