WHITAKER, Donald
Donald Whitaker was born at Hampstead, London in October 1868 and baptised at Hampstead St Paul on 6 January 1869, eldest child of John Whitaker (1844-14 June 1927), brewer, and his first wife Harriett N. née Nicoll (1847-1888), who married at Hampstead in 1866, John married secondly in 1894, widow Elizabeth Sarah Burlison. In 1891, Donald was a 22-year-old art student, living at Primrose Hill Road, Hampstead, with his 47-year-old widowed father John, and siblings Harold Thomas 20, Helen Melina 19 and Mary Ethel 16, all born at Hampstead. In 1892 his father was living at The White House, Amersham when Donald Whitaker married at St Mary's Church, Eastham, Cheshire in August 1892, Frances Ellen [Nellie] Thompson (1868-24 January 1946), daughter of Thomas William Thompson of Eastham, and their son Donald Nicoll William Whitaker (1893-1951) was born at Amersham. Donald was a landscape painter and a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1895-1896 exhibiting from The White House, Amersham, Buckinghamshire in 1895, 'Falling Leaves' and he exhibited three paintings at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters 1892-1894 from the same address. Donald Whitaker died at Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1900, aged 31 and in 1911, his wife was a 43-year-old widow, living at Quainton, Amersham, Chesham, Buckinghamshire the home of her 33-year-old married sister Lillian Constance Ponsford, née Thompson, and her family.
