FRASER, Jane Hyde

1863 - 1954

Jane Hyde Parker was born at Morley House, Bournemouth, Hampshire on 13 August 1863 and baptised at Holdenhurst, Hampshire on 6 September 1863, only child of Home John Parker (2 June 1819-15 October 1881) of Whinnieknowe in Nairn, Scotland who was a grandson of Admiral Sir William Hyde Parker of Melford Hall, Suffolk and of Nairn, Scotland, and his wife Anna Jane Fraser (14 March 1829-26 March 1903), only daughter of William Fraser of Culbokie, who married at St John's Episcopal Church, Edinburgh on 18 September 1862. Jane married at St Colomba's Episcopal Church, Nairn, Scotland on 28 April 1896, Commander, later Admiral Robert Grant Fraser (24 July 1858–18 October 1920). As Jane Hyde Parker, a painter in watercolour of still life and landscapes and a member of Ipswich Art Club 1896-1897 and exhibited four works 'A Highland Bog', 'Loch Knochie', 'A Highland Loch in Stratt Errick' and 'Still Life Study'. As Jane Hyde Fraser, a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1897-1905 and exhibited regularly from Whinnieknowe, Nairn, in 1897 'Christchurch Priory', two pictures in 1901 'Autumn Tints on the Findhorn, Morayshire' and 'Ferry on the Findhorn, Morayshire' and three pictures each in 1902 and 1903. Jane Fraser was a member of the British Watercolour Society the Society of Women Artists, and exhibited from 1902 to 1939, she also exhibited at the Dudley Gallery; Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and was still exhibiting in 1939. Jane Hyde Fraser died on 19 January 1954 and buried in Anstruther Cemetery, Fife, Scotland.
