GREEN, Royston
Royston Green was born at Gillingham, Medway, Kent in 1916, eldest child of Cyril Patrick J. Green (1893-), a policeman, and his wife Daisy Alexandra née Denyer (9 November 1894-17 August 1981), who married at Gillingham in 1915 and in 1921 were living at 95 Hugh Street, St George's Hanover Square, London. Royston was educated at Yeovil School and studied at the London University, graduating B.A. in 1935. He then spent 11 years as a writer (shorthand typist) in the Royal Navy. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1943-1946 and exhibited two oils in 1943, 'Moonlight at Sea' and 'Flowers' and an 'Illumination' (naval prayer), no addresses of the exhibitors were given in the catalogues during the war years. Art Master at Elmwood Mixed School, Wallington, Surrey living at 11 Bute Gardens, Wallington where he committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning on 31 January 1949, aged 32.
