BLAKISTON, Mildred Florence

1891 - 1985

As Mildred Florence Pearson, she was born in Australia on 2 September 1891, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Pearson of Golbourne House, Leamington, Warwickshire (Birmingham Daily Gazette 2 Feb. 1917). In March 1891 the Pearsons' at Golbourne House, Northumberland Road, Leamington, were 34-year-old James Pearson (c1857-1897), a coach body builder, who was born in Australia, and his 34-year-old wife Isabella née Atkinson (c1857-10 December 1893), who married at Warwick in 1883 with their children Helena H 7, Emma J. 5, James H. 3 and Anne Isabella 1, both James and Isabella died at Leamington in 1897. In 1911, Mildred was a 19-year-old visitor at her uncle's home, George Montynm Brown-Westhead, a barrister, and his wife Ada née Pearson and family at Lea Castle, Wolverly, Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Mildred, who was a V.A.D. Nurse, married at All Saints' Church, Leamington on 1 February 1917, Revd Bernard Robert Blakiston (1876-1933), a naval chaplain, but they were divorced on 28 March 1927, Bernard died at 19 Lansdown Crescent, Bath on 10 November 1933. As Mildred Blakiston, an artist in oil and watercolour who as one of the first pupils at the East Anglian School of Painting & Drawing then at Dedham, Essex later at Benton End, Hadleigh, Suffolk with Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett-Haines and where she exhibited in 1937. In 1939, Mildred was an artist painter, living at Bobbit's Hall, Holton St Mary, Suffolk with a domestic servant. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1942-1947 but had exhibited from Holton St Mary in 1941, four works 'Autumn Views', 'Hadleigh, Suffolk', 'Cherry Orchard' and 'Magnolias', in 1942 'Wild Flowers', 'Salvias' and 'Benton End, Hadleigh', in 1944 four oils 'Garden at Hadleigh', 'Flowers and Fruit', 'Roses' and 'The Hen Run' she was also a member of the Colchester Art Society. Mildred Florence Blakiston died at Mill House, Boxford, Suffolk on 25 July 1985.
