DYBALL, Joseph

1733 - 1808

Joseph Dyball was baptised at Swanton Abbot, Norfolk on 24 December 1733, son of William Dyball and his wife Elizabeth née Amyss. As a silversmith & engraver at Market Place, Bungay, he married on 25 April 1757, Jane Walker. There is an undated engraving of Bungay Castle, sculpt. J. Dyball size 120 x 140mm and another dated 1781 of the Bungay Convent Seal. Joseph was also an accomplished artist in oil and watercolour and painted and engraved several local scenes including the Market Place and the Old Corn Cross. By his wife Jane, he had eight children including Ann [Eaton], John and William. Dyball of Bungay are noted as a seller of ‘Pike’s Ointment’ in 1800 and was agent for the Militia Assurance Society. Joseph Dyball died on 21 October 1808 and was buried at Bungay St Mary church on 25 October 1808, aged 76 and his will proved in 1809 (Norwich 207 Bone) when his gold & silversmith shop in Market Place was taken by his son William.
