Evan Edwards was born at Edinburgh, Scotland on 25 May 1853, son of Henry Edwards and his wife Marian née Dykes. He married at Mission Chapel, Cartbridge, Woking, Surrey on 1 March 1877, Eliza Catherine Hilder (1854-21 February 1938), fourth daughter of Edward Hilder of Hoe Bridge, Woking and in 1881, Evan was a 27-year-old ‘retired' farmer, of High View, Belstead Road, Ipswich, living with his 26-year-old wife Eliza Catherine, born at Woking and their two children, Catherine Stewart 2, and Evan 1, both born at Guildford, and they kept three indoor servants. A member of Ipswich Fine Art Club 1883-1915, where he exhibited from Belstead Road in 1881, ‘A View near Ipswich’ and 'A View on the Orwell', in 1882 four oils 'Ivy', 'A Surrey Stream','The River Wey' and 'Summer Shower on the Orwell'. In 1883, as a member, exhibited two oils 'Sunset' and 'On the Thames' and was a regular annual exhibitor. In 1891, still living at Queenscliff, Belstead Road with a further three children, Christopher 9, Mary Sophia 8 and Donald 4, all born at Guildford, and retained four indoor servants. By 1901 they had moved to Walton Road, Trimley St Mary, Suffolk with his wife Eliza and daughter Catherine. In 1911, Evan Edwards and his wife, were living at Hoecliff, Wolsey Terrace, Felixstowe, Suffolk where he died on 17 September 1921, aged 68.
