Daphne Barclay

As Daphne Dorothy Crisp Binny, she was born at Hindhead, Farnham, Surrey on 14 August 1913, daughter of Lt. Col. Alan James Murray Binny (9 November 1878-20 June 1966) and his wife Dorothy Crisp (19 August 1881-31 August 1963), eldest daughter of historian Frederick Arthur Crisp (1851-1922) of The Manor House, Godalming, who married at Godalming Parish Church, Surrey on 16 August 1910. Daphne married at Westminster, London on 8 June 1937, Lt. Col. Walter Patrick Barclay (22 August 1899–21 May 1943), who was killed in action in Tunisia whilst Officer Commanding, the 6th Bn. Black Watch, they had issue twins, son Peter Charles Barclay and daughter Penelope Jean Barclay [O'Rorke] born in Rome on 26 February 1938. Daphne was a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1973-1985 and exhibited from Gateman’s, Stratford St Mary, Suffolk in 1973, an oil ''Thalatta' at Ipswich' and a watercolour 'Ipswich Docks' and the following year an oil 'Pensioner' and a watercolour 'Millie and Cygnet at Pin Mill' and was a regular exhibitor until the year of her death when she exhibited from the same address 'Barges at Ipswich'. Daphne Dorothy Crisp Barclay died at 'Gatemans', Stratford St Mary, near Ipswich on 23 September 1985.
