ELLIS, Beryl Mary
Beryl Mary Jane Ellis was born at Wallington, Surrey in 1881, youngest of the six daughters with a younger brother, of Edward Ellis (1843-28 August 1919), a stockbroker, and his wife Mary Ann Langmore (1846-23 June 1929), eldest daughter of William Butler Langmore, of Kirby Hall, Kent, who married at Holy Trinity Church, Westbourne Terrace, Kensington on 23 April 1867. In 1881, Beryl was living at The Manor House, Wallington with her parents, 37-year-old Edward, born at Hendon, Middlesex and 35-year-old Mary Ann, born at Finsbury, London and her five siblings Mary G. 12, Violet 10, Edith Susan 8, Lilian Mary 6 and Ivy Sybil 3, and they retained ten indoor servants, her brother Everett Wodehouse Ellis was born at Wallington in 1883. They were still at Wallington in 1891 but by 1901 had moved to Shadingfield Hall, near Beccles, Suffolk. Beryl exhibited at Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 1901 from Shadingfield Hall and she painted a self-portrait on ivory. Her parents were still living at Shadingfield in 1911 but with three servants and no sign of any of their children. Her father Edward, died at Shadingfield Hall in 1919 and his wife ten years later, in 1929. Beryl Mary Ellis, married Mr J. Mackenzie, a rubber planter from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), and they had two sons and a daughter born in Sri Lanka. The family lived in Sri Lanka for several years and where Beryl Mary Mackenzie died in 1931.
