Stephen Govier

Stephen James Govier was born at Hoxne, Suffolk in 1955, only son of the two children of James Henry Govier, an art master, and his wife, Freda Muriel née Tye (22 December 1930-1982), who married at Hoxne in 1950. Probably taught art by his father but studied art at Lowestoft School of Arts and Crafts and Liverpool Academy of Arts. He specialises in architectural illustrations of interesting buildings and landscapes, along with drawings of flora and fauna. He exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from 'The Retreat', Hoxne, Suffolk in 1979, 'Eye Guildhall and Church' and exhibits with the Black Dog Arts Group. He married at Eye in 1983, Jennifer M. Stevenson and has issue, living at Maynards, Heckfield Green, Hoxne, Eye, Suffolk before moving to Elmswell, Bury St Edmund's. He runs workshops for all age ranges and abilities in drawing, painting and printmaking and gives talks on all aspects of Suffolk and Norfolk history and historical research. Stephen has written and illustrated several books on local history and has produced design work for International, National, and regional companies. Examples of his work are represented in the British Museum, National Library of Wales, The Victoria & Albert Museum and several private collections.
