IRVING, Eleanor
As Eleanor Cree, she was born at Albert Bridge Road, Wandsworth, London on 10 April 1912, youngest of the three daughters of Arthur Thomas Crawford Cree (1881-12 May 1915), a barrister-at-law, and his wife Ivy Elizabeth Marion née Williams (19 February 1883-9 July 1981), who married at Tring Parish Church, Hertfordshire on 31 July 1907, her father Lieut. Arthur Cree was killed in action in Flanders on 12 May 1915 and in 1921 his widow and three daughters were living at Anthonys Boes Avenue, Chesham Bois, Buckinghamshire. In 1934 Eleanor was an artist living at Thorn Cottage, Byways, Berkhamsted and married at Finsbury Registry Office, London on 2 June 1938, Charles Arthur Le Mesurier Irving (17 June 1903-1 January 1986) and they had five children. A Friend at the Ipswich Art Club and as Mrs Eleanor Irving, exhibited from Mill House, Millbrook End, Tattingstone, Ipswich in 1979, 'Tattingstone Hall' and in 1980 two pictures 'Autumn Garden' and 'Old Town, Dubrovnick'. She had lived at Tattingstone since at least 1970 but later moved to Verandah Cottage, Gaston End, East Bergholt, Suffolk from where she exhibited at Ipswich in 1989 'Flowers in a Mirror' and in 1990 'Celadon Vase and Bowl' and 'Pink Geraniums'. Eleanor Irving was still living at East Bergholt in 2006 and died on 21 December 2008, aged 96, and buried at St Mary the Virgin, Tattingstone on 9 January 2009.
