MASON, Richard

Richard G. Mason was born at Ipswich on 20 June 1931, youngest of three sons of Harry Freeman Mason (7 January 1890-10 April 1965), tyre factor, and his wife Elsie Ellen née Wheeler (21 March 1887-12 April 1982), who married at Ipswich in 1915, his two elder brothers were Paul Philip Mason (born 1923) and Ivan Maitland Mason (11 February 1925-13 April 1999) and in 1939 they were living at Upland Gate, 39 Bishops Hill, Ipswich. Richard was educated at Ipswich School and was a sculptor of construction in metals, wood and perspex and a painter in oil and acrylic. Richard was a member of the Ipswich Art Club and exhibited from 39 Bishops Hill, Ipswich in 1980, two paintings 'China' and 'Resurrection' and two sculptures 'Oriental Bells' and 'Musical Reflections' and in 1997 a sculpture 'Worms Head' and was also a member of the Felixstowe Art Group. In 2006, he exhibited from 202 Ferry Road, Felixstowe two perspex & line sculptures 'Concord' and 'Nautilus'.
