Donal John Paschal Dunne was born at Southsea, Hampshire on 9 August 1914, son of Lieut. Cmdr. Thomas Bartholomew Dunne (8 January 1882-11 July 1963) of Southsea and his wife Elizabeth Maude née Dunn (6 May 1886-2 November 1972), who married at Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1912. Donal was employed by the Sudan Government educational service and stationed at Juba, but in 1935 he studied at the School of Art at the Technical College, Cardiff and exhibited at the South Wales Art Society in October 1938, a portrait 'Francis Joseph' for which he won the 40-guinea portrait prize. He married at the Church of St Philip Neri, Arundel, Sussex on 26 March 1951, Catherine Hilary Davis (1923-16 April 2000) of Precelly, The Avenue, Summersdale, Chichester. In the early 1960s he lived & worked in Cyprus, teaching art at St Michael's Secondary School, RAF Nicosia. He specialised in children's pastel portraits and in 1964 exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London, a painting entitled 'Carolyn' and exhibited at the Royal Academy. A member of the Ipswich Art Club and exhibited in 1985 from 3 Southwood House, South Entrance, Saxmundham, Suffolk, three paintings 'Catherine', 'The Pond, Letheringham' and 'La Playa, Nerja', he was also a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle in 1973. Donal John Paschal Dunne died at Chichester, Sussex in June 1997.
