BROOKE-SMITH, Wendy
As Alexandra Wendy Rhodes, she was born in Surrey N.E. in 1959, only child of Kenneth Thomas Lancashire Rhodes (-2 May 2018) and his wife Gemma M. née Dunkerley (1934-), who married at Bucklow, Cheshire in 1953. Wendy, as she is known, studied at the University of Exeter 1977-1981 gaining her B.A. French. She married at Uttlesford, Essex in 1983, John Brooke-Smith (born 1959) and paints under the name of Wendy Brooke-Smith. Wendy gained a diploma in Foundation Studies Art & Design 2001-2003 and her B.A. Fine Art, from Suffolk University Campus, Ipswich 2003-2008 being Student of the Year in 2007. A Member of the Ipswich Art Society and exhibited from Gay House, Great Oakley, Essex in 2006, an acrylic on canvas 'From where I'm Standing' which was a joint mature student prize winner. A member of the Colchester Art Society, Wendy has had solo exhibitions from Oakley Cottage, Pesthouse Lane, Great Oakley, Harwich, Essex at University Campus Suffolk Waterfront Gallery, Ipswich 2010-2014; Reed Smith, London 2011; Summer Exhibition, Naze Tower, Walton-on-Naze; Cobbold & Judd, Hintlesham Hall, Suffolk; Sentinel Gallery, Wivenhoe; Macmillan Charity Exhibition, Curwen Gallery, London W1, with solo exhibitions at Menier Gallery, London SE1; Gallery Different, London W1; National Trust Boat House Gallery, Flatford, Suffolk and elsewhere.
