DIXON-SMITH, Anna

As Annabel M. C. Hogg, she was born at Gosport, Hampshire in November 1962, daughter of Peter Burgon Hogg (1 September 1910-1999) and his wife Gabriel Argentine née Alington (5 March 1931-19 December 2004), who married at Hampstead Parish Church, London on 26 July 1951. Anna began her art training at Central St Martins School of Art in London and completed it at the University of Suffolk, where she gained a First-Class Honours degree. Before moving to Suffolk, Anna worked as a party designer for The Admirable Crichton, the renowned caterers in London. Annabel married at Brecknock, Wales in 1992, Hon'ble. Adam William George Dixon-Smith (born 1963), son of Robert William Dixon-Smith, Baron Dixon-Smith, and Georgina Janet née Cook. Anna has inherited, from her dancer mother, a love of dance that manifests itself in her energetic and rhythmic figure drawings, she draws from constantly moving dancers, performers, and acrobats, which gives her work an immediacy and drama that captures the sequence of movement. Her work does not focus on the dramatic or the picturesque but the familiar and the commonplace, found objects scattered across the landscape, feathers, stones, seeds, fungi, and bird's eggs catch her eye as she walks through the countryside, she then creates drawings and paintings based on these found objects. She works from her studio at Dove Barn, Groton, Sudbury in Suffolk but also gains inspiration from regular attendance at the Royal Drawing School. She has exhibited in London and Suffolk including the Aldeburgh Gallery.
