FRASER, Robert James Winchester

1871 - 1930

Robert James Winchester Fraser was born at Harowden, Bedfordshire in December 1871, son of Robert Winchester Fraser. As an artist he signed himself ‘Robert Winter’ to avoid confusion with his father. In 1881, young Robert was a 9-year-old, living at 47 Ellington Street, Islington, London and in 1891 a 20-year-old landscape painter living with his grandparents at River View, High Street, Hemingford Grey, St Ives, Huntingdonshire. He married at Holy Saviour at Croydon on 23 December 1896, Seeta Hargreaves Deane (born 1868), daughter of Edward Pope Deane, gentleman at arms, and they came to live at Worlington, Mildenhall, Suffolk. In 1901, Robert was a 29-year-old landscape artist, living at Grove House, Worlington with his 29-year-old wife Seeta, born Greentown, Ireland, and their one-year-old son Robert, born Mildenhall. By 1905 they had moved to Holywell, Needingworth, St Ives, Huntingdonshire with their three children Robert Deane, Frances and Seeta Margaret. Robert James Winchester Fraser died at Holywell, Needingworth on 2 March 1930, aged 60, leaving a widow.
