ARDIZZONE, Deborah Celia Joanna

As Deborah Celia Joanna Delf, she was born at Rawalpindi, Bengal, India in 1939, daughter of Brig. Charles MacIntyre Delf (9 November 1897-17 April 1981) and his wife, Vera Eleanor Delf née Hart. Deborah studied at Guildford Art School and at the Central School of Arts and Crafts (now Central St Martins) in London. She married, as the first of his four wives, at Hampstead in 1961, Nicholas George Edward Ardizzone (8 September 1939-22 December 2004) and works under the name of Deborah Ardizzone. Deborah works in textiles, painting, pastels and monoprints, her fabrics are dyed, printed and over-dyed many times to achieve a rich and subtle colour which are used for wall-hangings and pictures, and her interest in colour also leads her to work with the brilliance and delicacy of watercolours and pastel. A member of The Suffolk Craft Society and exhibits regularly with Suffolk Open Studios from her studio at The Old Vicarage, High Street, Yoxford, Suffolk, and at the summer show at Aldeburgh with her own solo show at The Yoxford Gallery, Yoxford, Suffolk. She was the partner of skiffle musician and journalist John Pilgrim (7 April 1933-18 December 2020).
