Varvara Neiman was born into an artistic family in St Petersburg, Russia in November 1970, the daughter of sculptor Jan Yanovich Neiman (born 1946). She studied all aspects and genres of painting, drawing and design for seven years at St Petersburg College of Art, ranked first in the former USSR for the artistic education of children. At the age of 18, Varvara became one of the youngest students admitted to the world-famous Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts, now the Russian Academy of Arts, studying Fine Art and specialising both in Theatre Set and Costume Design, receiving her master's (M.A.) degree. In the mid 1990s, she set out on an artistic career in some of St Petersburg’s most famous theatres, producing designs for various drama productions. Following a move to London, Varvara Neiman concentrated on her career as a professional artist, staging exhibitions in Central London, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Suffolk, where she has a country home at Aldringham Lane, Leiston, Suffolk. This period is reflected in her art through a striving for new forms and media, combining her purely classical training with a modern imagination and a kaleidoscope of pastoral scenes, neo-Surrealist paintings, portraits, and the acclaimed cityscapes ensued, in an equally diverse range of media, oil, acrylic, gouache and watercolour. She married at Slough, Buckinghamshire in 1999, John Geoffrey Christian Pflaumer and after earning her Post Graduate Certificate of Education she currently teaches at various locations in Buckinghamshire, also holding private lessons at her studio in Beaconsfield. She has exhibited at Bucks Open Studios; The Beaconsfield Art and Craft Fair; The Berkeley Gallery Art from Hertfordshire and at Buckinghamshire Art Society. Her artwork is held in private and Royal collections across Russia, the UK, France and in America.
