ANSELL, Amanda Louise

Amanda Louise Ansell was born at Sudbury, Suffolk on 29 May 1976, daughter of Roger G. Ansell (born 1943) and his wife Pauline P. née Border (born 1944), who married at Sudbury in 1973. Amanda studied at the Norwich School of Art 1995–1998, graduating B.A. (hons) and at The Slade School of Fine Art, London 1998–2000. After studying and painting in London for some seven years, Amanda returned to East Anglia in 2006 to begin an artist residency at Firstsite, Colchester. The same year, a body of her work was selected for exhibition at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge and she was nominated for Jerwood Contemporary Painters, London. A contemporary British artist, her oil paintings are about a sense of place, and explore the floating subject and the relationship between painter and nature. Painted in abstract seascapes and evoking the forms of icebergs at sea, these fragile forms remind the viewer of the short-lived and are stark reminders of the fragility of island life, life itself and the natural world under threat today. Amanda Ansell has exhibited at the Royal Academy also showing at the Waterfront Gallery, Ipswich; Artswat, Sway, Hampshire; Halesworth Gallery, Suffolk; Eastern Open, Kings Lynn; New Blood Art, Crane Mews, Middlesex; Kettle's Yard, Cambridge; Vertigo Gallery, London; Business Design Centre, London and elsewhere.
