Pat Belsay

Patrick Charles Bellay was born at Cambridge in 1942. In 1957 he enlisted in the army as a boy, serving in the Royal Engineers at Aldershot, Dover, Farnborough, Chatham and Longmoor before leaving the army in 1963. He then joined the architects Department of Essex County Council 1963-1968 during which time became an R.I.B.A. external student at the Technical College, Longbridge Road, Barking, Essex obtaining an 'A' Art needed for his RIBA acceptance. In 1968 he joined, as an associate, in the private practice of Ipswich architect John Leggett leaving in 1976 to set up his own practice in Hatton Court, Ipswich. He married at Hackney, London in 1978, Ann Winifred Phillips and their son is Matthew Bellay. In 1982 moved his practice to Old Town Hall, Needham Market, near Ipswich but, on his semi-retirement, closed this office in 2009 continuing to work from his home at 4 Crown Paddock, Needham Market. He had a short spell as an artist 1966-1968, when John Campbell of the Art Shop in Maldon, Essex sponsored his work, but only returned to art again in 2007 and now paints abstract paintings, colour & texture, light or dark orientated in oil, acrylic, or mixed media, but continues experimenting. He has exhibited in Ipswich, Aldeburgh, Snape, and Norwich.
