Marjoke Henrichs

Marjoke J. Henrichs was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands, in 1955. Marjoke studied Fine Art & Textile at d'Witte Leli, Amsterdam 1975-1981, postgraduate at Jan van Eyk Academy, Maastricht 1981-1983 and postgraduate Theatre Design Art at Riverside Studios (Motley) London 1983-1984. A children's book author & illustrator, theatre designer and artist, her work is inspired by nature's landscapes to be seen in rock, soil, vegetation, and water that marks the relationship. She uses inkjet photographs as a painting medium, combined with acrylic paint, soft pastels, and plaster, her earlier works often contain writing as part of the image. Over the years, her work has become more abstract with most recent series on panel are sparse, exploring the essence of the subject matter. She has exhibited in Suffolk at The Garage Space, Harkstead; Bury St Edmund's Art Gallery; Blackthorpe Barn, Rougham; Folkes-Miller Fine Art, Long Melford; Halesworth Art Gallery; the Frame Workshop & Gallery, Ipswich; the John Russell Gallery, Ipswich and elsewhere in the county and has also exhibited at Mall Galleries, London; Advice Arcade, Norwich; Royal College of Art, London; Theatre Museum Covent Garden, London and in 1995 in the British Stage Design exhibition in Prague which won her the Gold Medal. Currently a theatre designer, artist and book illustrator and donated from 3 Wades Lane, Shotley, Ipswich to the 'Westhall Secret Postcard Auction' in 2013 an acrylic 'Blue Bush' and a watercolour 'River Orwell' and in 2014 'As seen from Above'.
