He married in 2005 Madeleine Eleanor Taylor and in 2007 was employed by Maggi Hambling as her studio assistant. An artist whose work reflects his life, Chris Newson's work can be both raw and unpredictable, painting with generous amounts of oil with a jewel-like mix of colour associated with religious icons, the passion, intensity, and anger reflecting a difficult past. But you will also see calm studies of a Suffolk landscape, so real and sculpted that you want to connect with them. Holding his first exhibition at Old Print Works Gallery, Saxmundham, Suffolk in 2007 and has had many exhibitions including Marlborough Fine Art Gallery London; Peter Pears Gallery Aldeburgh; Wildwood Gallery Bury St Edmund's; Cobbold & Judd Fine Art Orwell Park, Ipswich; Snape Maltings Galleries, Suffolk; Re+New, Woodbridge; Gallery and Framing Shop, Leiston and elsewhere. He donated a work to the 'Westhall Secret Postcard Auction' in 2013 'The Scallop & Unusual Portrait'. He has a Framing Shop and Art Gallery at Leiston, Suffolk.
