STEARN, Samuel Geater

1812 - 1896

Samuel Geater Stearn was born at Easton, Suffolk in 1812, son of Samuel Geater Stearn (1774-14 June 1855), landed proprietor, and his wife Mary Ann née Cooper, who married at Hoo, Suffolk on 20 October 1808. Young Samuel married at Debach, Woodbridge, Suffolk on 25 April 1848, Ann Reynolds (1824-1874), youngest daughter of Revd Osborne Shribbs Reynolds, rector of Debach. In 1851, a 39-year-old corn merchant, living at The Street, Brandeston, Suffolk with his 26-year-old wife Ann, and kept one servant girl. By 1861, a farmer at the same address and was still there ten years later. His wife died at Brandeston in 1874, when he took his niece Emma Cowles as his housekeeper and in 1881, a farmer, living at Brandeston with his 23-year-old niece and kept one general servant. He then retired and took up painting, as in 1891, 34-year-old Emma Cowles was head of a household as a dairy farmer with 79-year-old Samuel, an artist, a boarder at Queen's Head Street, Brandeston. Samuel Geater Stearn died at Brandeston in January 1896, aged 84. The author of 'A Lecture on the Breeding and Management of Pigs' (1866).
