BOHM, Johanna Cecilia Hansi
Johanna Cecilia Hansi Bauer was born in Vienna, Austria on 22 May 1907, daughter of Friedrich Fritz Bauer (23 May 1868-17 March 1937) and his wife Ida née Winter (17 July 1879-1968), Johanna was formerly married to Franz Böhm, with whom she had issue and took the name of Böhm. Johanna commenced her art training at Cizek's Vienna Art School, training as a commercial artist in the early 1930s before coming to live at Grange Road, Orpington, Kent in 1938, learning photography and began illustrating book covers. She later trained as an occupational therapist, with a view to entering art therapy which she had learned from Marie Petrie (1887–1972). Böhm was employed as an art therapist in an Essex Hospital, where she had two small rooms for pottery and painting and, after the Second World War, spent lengthy periods living and painting in the Walberswick area of Suffolk. She had solo exhibitions in New York and at London's Drian Galleries and Cardiff Arts Centre. Johanna Cecilia Hansi Böhm died in London on 9 February 1996.
