Chris Turland

Christopher W. Turland was born at Bridge, Kent in 1956, son of Roger Turland (3 April 1933-25 December 2009) and his wife Georgina F. L. née Lovett, who married at Bridge in 1954. Chris was educated at Stowmarket Grammar School 1967-1972 he then joined the merchant navy and ever since has been drawn to views of the sea and of ships, and in his 20s he discovered Britain’s canals. Chris studied art at school, at some point his drawing skills and increasing interest in paint came together and he commenced producing landscape paintings in oil and has now been painting and illustrating for some 30 years. He now works in a variety of media, oils, watercolours and acrylic and, taking inspiration from local Suffolk scenes and history, specialising in vehicles and boats and canal paintings but also producing historical landscapes and street scenes of Ipswich and of Suffolk. A tutor at Orchard Barn, Offton, Ipswich and exhibits at Art on the Prom at Felixstowe, Suffolk and is a member of the Orwell Art Club.
