AMES, Michael John
Michael John Ames was born at Bury Street, Stowmarket, Suffolk in 1937, son of John William Ames (30 April 1907-31 March 1981), shopkeeper, and his wife Margaret Veronica née Lowe (13 January 1907-1969), who married at Manchester in 1932. Michael married at Gipping, Suffolk in 1961, Monica J. Cook. An artist and teacher as Head of Art & Design at St Louis Catholic Middle School, Bury St Edmund's, and a committee member of the Bury Society Charity. Awarded a British Empire Medal in 2012 for services to the community in Bury St Edmund's. Michael John Ames lived at 84 Whiting Street, Bury St Edmund's and died in hospital on 27 May 2014, aged 77, and there was a civic procession through Bury St Edmund's to his funeral at St Edmund’s Church in Westgate Street.
