Henry Moore Holbrook

Henry Moore Holbrook was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 16 October 1854 and baptised at Lowestoft St Margaret's Church on 5 May 1861, son of John Wyeth Holbrook (1826-8 February 1892), a wine merchant’s clerk, and his wife Elizabeth née Moore (1826-1911) who married at Lowestoft in 1849. In 1871, Henry was a 15-year-old printer’s apprentice to Joseph Flood, living at 47 Crown Street, Burton Place, Lowestoft with his parents, 43-year-old John Wyeth and 40[sic]-year-old Elizabeth, a dressmaker, who were both born at Lowestoft and ten siblings John Robert 21, Lucy Elizabeth 15, William Moore 13, Edward Oscar 12, Richard Wyeth 10, Mary Maria 9, George Albert 7, Charles Sydney 6, Horace Herbert 4 and Florence Jane Moore 2, all born at Lowestoft. Henry married at St Margaret's Church, Lowestoft on 7 March 1880, Florence Flood (1855-23 July 1894), daughter of his employer Joseph Flood, who was a general printer and advertising agent at Wild’s Score, High Street, Lowestoft, and publisher of the 'Lowestoft News & Observer'. In 1891, Henry was a printer & publisher, living at St Margaret’s Plain, Lowestoft with his 35-year-old wife and six children, Harry 10, Florence 8, Sydney 7, Alice 5, Richard 3 and Maud 1. His wife Florence died at Lowestoft on 23 July 1894, aged 39, when Henry moved his family to Walthamstow, Essex where in 1901, a 46-year-old poster designer & writer, living at 34 Markhouse Avenue with four of his children, plus a boarder and a visitor. In 1911, a 56-year-old poster writer, scenic artist &c., living at 2 St James’s Street, Walthamstow, with three of his children, Sidney Herbert, Alice Beatrice and 23-year-old Richard Arthur Holbrook, who was following in his father’s profession. Henry Moore Holbrook died at 189 Coppermill Lane, Walthamstow on 10 December 1926.
