SEWARD, William
William Seward was born at Bocking, Essex on 27 October 1811, son of Samuel Seward and his wife Jane. A member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1832, where he was probably tutored by Henry Davy. In 1841, a 30 year old land surveyor & shorthand writer, living at St Helen’s Street, Ipswich with his 30 year old wife Elizabeth and children William 4 and Henry Christian 11 months. In 1842, a land surveyor, who went into partnership with Benjamin Backhouse, architect & surveyor at St Matthews, Ipswich. Noted in White’s Directory of Suffolk for 1844 as a newsagent and correspondent to 'Bury & Suffolk Herald', of Norwich Road, Ipswich also, in the same directory, a land surveyor. William Seward ‘late of Ipswich’ died at Manchester on 19 September 1846, aged 34.
