PARTRIDGE, Emily Annette
Emily Annette Partridge was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 24 August 1860, daughter of Henry Richard Partridge (18 October 1820-18 July 1894), a saddler, and his wife Catherine née Maderson (1821-2 May 1889), who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1843. In 1861, Emily was a newly born, living at 18 Cornhill, Bury St Edmund's with her parents, 40-year-old Henry and 39-year-old Catherine, with four siblings, Henry Richard 13, Harriett 11, Susannah 8 and Arthur Wilfred 4. In 1881, a 20-year-old governess, living with her 34-year-old governess sister Catherine, at 9 Angel Hill, Bury St Edmund's taking in seven young girl boarder pupils. In 1882, as Miss E. Partridge, she exhibited two oil paintings at the Bury St Edmunds Fine Art Society ‘View in Friars Lane’ and ‘Sunset’ and continued her art studies passing her examinations at Bury St Edmund's Government Science & Art Class in May 1885. Her sister Catherine married Robert Allen, a cabinet maker, and they all went to live at Northbury House, 7 Northgate Street, Bury St Edmund's where they were living 1891-1911 and where they also kept a school. In 1939, Emily was an assistant teacher, still living at 7 Northgate Street, Bury St Edmund's with her widowed brother-in-law Robert Allen and his daughter Kate, and where Emily Annette Partridge died on 7 January 1942, aged 81, she was unmarried.
