HUNT, Henrietta Louisa
Henrietta Louisa Hunt was born at Ipswich in 1854 and baptised at St Peter's Church, Ipswich on 28 February 1855, youngest daughter of Joah Furey Hunt (1821-18 March 1885), a soap manufacturer, and his wife Henrietta née McInnes (29 July 1820-9 May 1905), who married at St Pancras Church, London on 6 September 1852. In 1861, young Henrietta was a 6-year-old, living at 60 St Peter’s Street, Ipswich with her parents, 39-year-old Joah, born at Hornsey, Middlesex and 38[sic] year old Henrietta, born in Scotland and Henrietta's 7-year-old sibling sister Leila Emma. As Louisa Hunt, a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1875-1879 but exhibited ten still life works in 1881, ‘Wild Flowers’, 'Red Roses', 'Yellow Chrysanthemums', 'Poppies', 'Roses', 'Field Flowers', Chrysanthemums', 'Roses', 'Primulas' and 'Grapes' and as Miss L. Hunt of Ipswich exhibited at the Bury St Edmund's Fine Art Society in 1880 'Fresh Gathered Roses'. When of Highfield Lodge, Henley Road, Ipswich she married at St Margaret's Church, Ipswich on 26 October 1881, Edwin Powell of Christ Church, Lea, Kent, and in 1882, as Mrs Louie Powell, exhibited at Ipswich from Newstead Lodge, Lee, Kent 'The Last of the Rose' and in 1883 as Mrs Powell (Miss Louie Hunt) from the same address three oils, 'Primulas' and two entitled 'Chrysanthemums' and was a regular exhibitor. As Mrs Powell, she rejoined the Ipswich Art Club 1889-1908 and exhibited eight pictures from Newstead Lodge in 1905, including 'Primulas', 'Wallflowers', 'Daffodils' and 'Violets'. In 1891, a 36-year-old, living at Highfield Lodge, 37 Newstead Road, Lee, Kent with her 46-year-old husband Edwin, a director of a wholesale warehouse company, born at Peckham, London, and their son Arthur W. J. 3, born in London, and they retained three servants. They were still living at 37 Newstead Road in 1911 when husband Edwin was described as a retired bank manager. In 1921 Henrietta Louisa Powell was a widow living at 2 Buckhurst Road, Bexhill, Sussex but later returned to Suffolk and died at The Waverley, Felixstowe on 26 March 1927, aged 73.
