SAUMAREZ, Hon. Veronica
Veronica Saumarez was born at Marlebone, London on 21 June 1915, daughter of James St Vincent Broke Saumarez (29 November 1889–16 January 1969), who inherited as 5th Baron Saumarez in 1937, and his wife Gunhild Balck (11 December 1889-30 March 1985), younger daughter of Maj-Gen. Sir Viktor Gustaf Balck, who married at Stockholm on 30 April 1914. A niece of Marion Saumarez and sister to Christine Saumarez. Veronica exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Broke Hall, Nacton, Ipswich in 1932, a watercolour 'Amalfi' and she also exhibited with sister Christine at the Beaux Arts Gallery in 1936. In 1939, she was living at Shrubland Hall, Barham, near Ipswich with her parents, an estate her father inherited in 1937 and she was with the British Red Cross and Auxiliary Territorial Service during the Second World War. She married on 12 July 1945, Brigadier Anthony William Allen Llewellen Palmer (18 November 1912-1990), son of Colonel William Llewellen Palmer and Lady Alexandra Augusta Wynn-Carington. Veronica Palmer died on 6 December 2002 at age 87. She signed with monogram 'VS (linked)'. Two of her oil paintings were sold by Christies at the Parham House sale in 1996 'Chimran, Persia' (34.2cm x 55.8cm) and 'Landscape near Tehran'.
