MORGAN, Ethel Mahala

1875 - 1926

Ethel Mahala Morgan was born at 23 Clareville Grove, Kensington, London in 1875, youngest child of artist Alfred Morgan and his wife Jessey née Roe (13 July 1833-16 March 1908), who married at Ipswich in 1867, the sister of artists Alfred Kedington Morgan (1868-1928) and Owen Baxter Morgan (1873-1926). In 1911, Ethel was a 35-year-old art teacher, living at 30 Palewell Park, Mortlake, Surrey with her 75-year-old widowed father Alfred and siblings Jessie 40 and Owen Baxter 37, both unmarried. A miniature artist and an art teacher and an associate of the Royal Miniature Society and the Society of Women Artists. She exhibited at the Walker Art Gallery, the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, from London and Paris. She also exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1923, two portraits 'Dr David, the Rt. Rev. the Lord Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich' and 'Portrait of a Little Girl'. Ethel Mahala Morgan died at 30 Palewell Park, East Sheen, Surrey on 22 December 1926, aged 51, she was unmarried.
