KERSEY, Emma Mary
Emma Mary Kersey was born at Hadleigh, Suffolk in January 1861, second of the six children of Samuel Overbury Kersey (18 July 1825-18 June 1902), a merchant and farmer, and his wife Emma Winter (1828-1893), fourth daughter of the late Robert Winter, who married at Notting Hill, London on 13 January 1859. In 1881, Emma was a 20-year-old, living at Bridge Street, Hadleigh with her 53-year-old mother Emma, born Clapham, Surrey and three siblings Helen Louisa 17, Frances Adelaide 17 and Winifred Esdaile 11, all born at Hadleigh. Emma exhibited at Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1883, from Edgehill, Bridge Street, Hadleigh two watercolours, 'Wild Roses' and 'Ox-eyed Daisies'. By 1891 the family had moved to Pond Hall, Hadleigh and in 1901 Emma was a boarder at The Manse, Oulton, Norfolk, the home of congregational minister, George Giles and his family. In 1911, she was a patient in Norwich Asylum at Old Palace Road, Norwich and Emma Mary Kersey was of Heigham Hall, Norwich when she died on 17 April 1928, she was unmarried. In 1836 Heigham Hall, Old Palace Road, Norwich had become a Private Lunatic Asylum.
