Stephanie Lambourne

Stephanie Clare Lambourne was born at Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire in 1973, spending her early years in Hertfordshire. She studied for her B.A. (hons) degree in Fine Art at the Hornsey College of Art, now the Middlesex University, 1992-1996 and then completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Art and Design Education. After her studies she spent two years in Norfolk creating hundreds of ink studies of the Norfolk and Suffolk coast and, after teaching in schools and colleges for several years, in 2003 she gave up teaching to paint full time and now lives with her family in Suffolk. On her walks along the beach Stephanie would collect driftwood and other objects that would later be used in her art works. Typically, her work was based around the coastal ink drawings and would take the form of boats, cottages, beach huts and seagulls. Today her paintings still link back to her earlier art works, but people and humour are now a major focus. Her paintings are quirky, light-hearted, and colourful, peopled by unreal characters in sometimes strange pursuits. Her paintings are acrylic on canvas, and she very rarely makes preparatory sketches, preferring to sketch ideas straight onto canvas which creates a sense of freshness to her art work. She has exhibited at the Southwold Gallery, the Cork Brick Gallery, Bungay and the Taplin Gallery, Woodbridge in Suffolk and the Bircham Gallery, Holt, Norfolk and elsewhere. Many of her works have been used in greeting cards which are freely on sale in the UK and as far away as Australia and she also accepts commissions.
